# Prominence

**Prominence is your average rank when you are mentioned.** Lower is better.

If the assistant returns a list of options, the difference between #1–#2 and #5–#6 is often the difference between being recommended and being "also listed."

### **Calculation**

$Prominence=average(position ∣ mentioned)$

### **Example**

If you were mentioned 5 times and your positions were #1, #2, #4, #3, #2:

* Prominence = (1 + 2 + 4 + 3 + 2) / 5 = **#2.4**

### **How to interpret it**

* Visibility can be stable while prominence worsens. That usually means you are still included, but competitors are being preferred.
* Prominence improves when:
  * Your "why choose us" criteria matches what the answer emphasizes
  * You have stronger evidence/citations
  * And your pages are structured in a way models can summarize confidently

Prominence is an "average when mentioned," not an overall ranking across the entire market. It is scoped to your tracked prompts and the competitor set that appears in your runs.
